Mexico City

Casa Pepe

Probably the best hostel I have stayed in so far. It is located in the heart of the old town, it has a swimming pool and a great rooftop bar that hosts events every day. The dorms are very comfortable with private bathrooms. It’s super clean, the breakfast quesadilla buffet is fantastic and they have a comfortable co-working space. They offer free walking tours, that are worth a while as well as happy hours every day. Definitely recommended if you want to have a good time but also sleep well. This is definitely a 5-star hostel. I opted for a female-only dorm.

Puerto Escondido

Paziflora

This is not a hostel for everyone. It’s very calm and far from the Zicatela beach. For me it was perfect, as I was going to learn surfing in Carizalillo ( I recommend contacting Antonio from EcoSurf), that is only 10 min walk from there. I also fell in love with playa Bacocho that was completely empty! It was so wild and free, incredible. In addition the hostel is new, very comfortable, has great breakfast and the owners are just to nice. In the afternoon I would just sit in the garden, chat with them and play with their pet-parrot.

Bacalar

Casa Bakal

This place has everything you need in order to have a good time in Bacalar. They offer dorms and private cabins. You can rent a kayak, SUP or a bicycle charge free. There is a swimming pool, hamocks and an incredible deck on the lagoon that I spent the entire day at just staring at the water.

Colombia

Tayrona Park

Viajero Hostel Tayrona & Ecohubs

This is THE place to stay when you want to visit Tayrona Park. Sure, you will need to take a 20 min bus in order to get to the entrance, but it’s worth it. This is a Resort Hostel. Located directly on the beach, with a big swimming pool, pool bar, good restaurant, beach volleyball court. The dorms are big and spacious, outside bathrooms have a very luxurious feel to them. They also offer private cabins. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. It’s a great place to relax for a few days before heading to Palomino or Cartagena.

Palomino

Casa del Pavo Real

It’s a hotel that has one dorm. It’s very close to the beach and a short walk from the “main street” of Palomino. The swimming pool is very refreshing after a day at the beach, the breakfast is delicious and the space is decorated with style. Super nice, and, I think, more comfortable then other hostels in the area.

Costa Rica

Jaco

Beach Brake Resort

This is a proper resort that has one dorm room. Normally I don’t like Resorts and I try to stay away from them. This time, as it was at the very end of my long trip, this place was perfect. Moreover, it was low season, the place was empty and I had almost the entire hotel to myself. 3 swimming pools, breakfast buffet, super comfy beds and sunsets to die for. I stayed for 5 days and read 3 books. Perfection.

Uvita

Karandi Hostel

Cute and small. But: located very close to the beach, you can spot sloths right outside the entrance, it has a kitchen and a spice garden and is walking distance from the Punta Uvita National Park. Very nice place to stay for one or two nights.

San Jose

Selina

I am normally not the biggest fan of Selinas. But this one was different. Super comfortable beds, very new rooms with spacious, private bathrooms. It was close to the city center and hosted concerts every night. Common spaces are very comfortable, the kitchen is big and the bar offers great cocktails as well as delicious food. They even have a cinema room. I can definitely recommend this one.
