Where to have the best tapas in Barcelona

tapas barcelona

When I hear “Spain,” I think “Tapas” and “Cava” and “Vermut” 😉 Barcelona is a pretty touristy city, that’s why it’s always nice to have a few local addresses, to taste the authentic, Catalan cuisine. It’s fatty, oily, fried and delicious. Here are some great spots to have Tapas in Barcelona.

Bar Jai-ca

Probably one of the oldest tapas bars in town. Located in Barceloneta, it’s very popular, so you might need to stand in a line to get in. Don’t worry, the line goes quickly and it’s definitely worth the wait! The tapas are fresh and delicious. They have very friendly prices as well. You can get anything from the classic patatas bravas, through chupirones (fried baby squid, my favorite) to bombas (balls of potato mash filled with meat).

Bitacora

Another institution in Barceloneta (they also have one restaurant in Poblenou). Great tapas, very authentic place. It’s always full, so call ahead if you are more then two. The quality of the dishes is amazing and you will love the prices.

La Robadora

This place is located in the heart of Raval. It’s not the safest neighborhood in the city, but it’s not that horrible either 😉 And if you watch your belongings, you will be completely fine. This gem is worth a visit to Raval. They have an amazing wine cellar and the best croquetas con trufa I have ever had.

El 58

A hole in the wall on La Rambla de Poblenou. Most of the time you will need a reservation, as it is extremely popular amongst the locals and expats in the city. They serve high-quality tapas with a twist.

Paco Meralgo

Allegedly the best tapas in Barcelona. And this menas a lot in a city where each street hosts at least 10 restaurants. Make sure to make a reservation. The place is very nice, but like everything in Barcelona, there is not much of a dress code. Amazing tapas and wine.

La Brisa

A little place on La Rambla de Poblenou. It’s the place to go when el 58 is closed. Great friend fish, good patatas bravas and Gin & Tonic.

Ziryab

It’s a Catalan – Oriental fusion. And surprisingly, it works very well! Try their Jamon Iberico, dates with pancetta, and the selection of cheeses. Loved it there! Great service, cozy atmosphere = good place for a date.

La Xula Taperia

Mu friends brought me here. Like most of the restaurants in Gracia, you can’t tell from the outside what to expect. It’s a hole in the wall. But oh my God, it was good! Everything on that menu was freshly prepared, the ingredients were delicious and the wine was amazing. Definitely recommended of you are on a walk around the neighborhood.
